METIS SHIP CONNECT

Data Acquisition as a Service

METIS is the only company offering Data Acquisition as a service. We do not just sell yet another piece of onboard hardware. With METIS Ship Connect we provide an integrated solution that ensures trouble-free data acquisition — keeping everything running smoothly is an integral part of your service contract with us. METIS Ship Connect forms the solid, reliable data acquisition layer on which we base all further processing and analysis.

METIS - Data Acquisition - wireframe 2

METIS sets new standards in automated data acquisition  by implementing MQTT and protobuf

MQTT, the latest and most hitech messaging protocol for the internet of things, is extremely light requiring minimal network bandwidth while at the same time provides increased reliability, scalability, security and the ability to offer true Real-Time monitoring of the vessel performance.

Protobuf ( Protocol Buffers) is a Google developed, open-source, language- and platform-neutral mechanism for serialising structured data, useful in developing programs to communicate with each other over a network and for managing and storing big volumes of data.

Wireless Intelligent Collectors

Robust & Intelligent IoT devices designed specifically for the maritime industry

The cornerstone of METIS Ship Connect is our custom designed and manufactured Wireless Integrated Collector (WIC). WIC  devices connect directly to the machinery, instruments and/or sensors they monitor. WICs have wired and wireless networking options for minimizing dependence on cabling thus simplifying installation.  When in relative proximity to each other, WICs support self-organizing, ad hoc wireless sub-networks that are interconnected through the vessel LAN backbone. WIC devices are designed and manufactured under METIS specifications and supervision. The final topology chosen depends on vessel equipment arrangement and project requirements.

Onboard equipment that WICs are most commonly connected to and key monitored quantities include:

METIS Ship Connect

Main Functions

Collect

The METIS fully automated Data Acquisition system collects data from sensors, machinery and measurement equipment onboard vessels, while also supporting manual input from the crew.

Clean

Collected data passes the first level of analysis that verifies correct operation of the measurement equipment, while ensuring that datasets are within expected ranges for a particular vessel, at the specific conditions.

Enrich

METIS enriches collected information with data from 3rd party sources such as weather forecasts (typically from 4 major providers), AIS and also customer-specific internal systems (e.g. ERP, PMS, Noon Reports).

Synchronize

Data collected from vessels and 3rd party sources is synchronized, providing a coherent data set on which METIS bases all further analysis, ultimately supporting a shipping company in its
decision-making process.

Store

Measurement data is transferred to METIS Space, typically through a vessel's broadband satellite connection. There it is safely stored in preparation for analysis and extraction of valuable, actionable information.

Things to consider when choosing a Data Acquisition System

METIS Ship Connect is a comprehensive solution that takes care of all aspects of data acquisition:

    • Onboard Installation, testing & unattended periodic system health checks
    • Remote device monitoring (24/7) by our operations department
    • Troubleshooting & Support for the crew or for the technical department ashore
    • Replacement devices (free of charge) in the unlikely event of a device failure
