Job Description

As a Service Engineer of METIS Data Acquisition System, you will contribute to the implementation of the installation/commissioning process of the system onboard. The responsibilities of the role mainly include:

Preparation, installation, commissioning, evaluation, reporting, documentation of METIS Data Acquisition System onboard


The technical requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s degree of Electrical/ Automation Engineering or similar disciplines (preferably from Technological Institute)
  • Relevant working experience (1-3 years) will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of:
    • Installation processes of low voltage electrical/electronic systems
    • Vessel electrical & electronic systems
    • Common industrial communication electrical protocols (RS485, RS422, RS232, 4…20mA, CAN).
    • Standard serial communication protocols used in Maritime (NMEA, Modbus, CAN Bus, other custom widely used protocols)
    • Computer Local Area Networks
    • Setup and installation of basic equipment used for the onboard system integration (analog to serial converters, signal splitters, analog/pulse transmitters, etc)
  • Be able to configure:
    • Linux-based operating systems, which METIS system is based on
    • Windows-based operating systems that the vessels are equipped with
  • Be able to:
    • Understand the architecture and functionality of various systems that are already installed onboard and METIS collects signals from (Navigation systems, Cargo Control systems, Ballast Tank Management systems, Alarm Monitoring Systems, Torquemeters, Flowmeters, other)
    • Understand electrical schematics of the various systems onboard the vessel and identify the various signal sources that will be used
    • Follow (or change if needed) a plan of the system architecture that will be installed and proceed to a compact, high-quality installation
  • Very good command of oral and written English
