Strategic partnership combines vessel data acquisition, AI-powered analytics from Metis and Marlink’s managed digital services to help shipowners accelerate digital transformation and operational efficiency.

Oslo, Paris and Athens, 27 May 2026. Marlink, a global leader in managed services for business-critical digital solutions, has signed an MoU with Metis, a specialist in maritime data collection and advanced analytics, to establish a strategic partnership and expand IoT capabilities for shipowners and fleet operators.

The agreement establishes Marlink as a strategic integration partner for Metis’ vessel performance and operational data solutions, combining Marlink’s global maritime digital infrastructure, cyber secure network environment and customer support capabilities with Metis’ expertise in end-to-end data acquisition and AI-powered analytics.

Metis will provide the onboard data acquisition, equipment integration services and the analytics platform, while Marlink will bring the solution to market as part of its Possibility solutions portfolio, supported by its maritime customer engagement, cyber-secure network environment and global service organisation.

The partnership will expand Marlink’s ability to deliver holistic operational intelligence solutions for maritime customers, enabling fleets to capture, analyse and operationalise high-frequency vessel data more effectively across fuel consumption, emissions performance, voyage optimisation, machinery performance, compliance reporting and operational efficiency.

The agreement also creates a roadmap for deeper technical integration, with future development focused on bringing Metis’ IoT and AI-powered analytics capabilities into closer alignment with Marlink’s XChange NextGen edge platform. By enabling more intelligence at the vessel edge, the partnership will help customers accelerate the shift towards smarter, more connected and data-driven fleet operations.

Metis launches a new set of AI-powered capabilities within its Fleet Performance Management platform, introducing maritime-native intelligence designed to help shipowners and operators turn complex operational data into faster, more confident decisions and actions.

The new functionality builds on Metis’s telemetry-first approach, introducing specialised AI agents capable of analysing vessel performance, machinery condition, voyage operations, and emissions exposure. The launch marks a significant step forward in the evolution of fleet management, moving beyond traditional dashboards towards actionable, transparent decision support.

Developed specifically for maritime operations, the AI-powered features are designed to assist fleet managers and technical teams by consolidating operational signals, evaluating vessel conditions, and surfacing clear recommendations with visible confidence levels and supporting data context.

“Shipping has invested heavily in collecting and visualising data over the past decade, but operators are increasingly asking how to shorten the distance between data and action”, said Panos Theodossopoulos, CEO of Metis. “Our new AI-powered capabilities have been developed to address this challenge precisely, while ensuring the transparency and trust that maritime professionals require before acting on AI-driven recommendations”.

The Metis AI framework is built on four core layers: resilient IoT (telemetry) infrastructure, data integrity and validation, fleet performance analytics, and domain-specialist AI agents trained specifically for maritime use cases. This approach ensures that recommendations are grounded in validated operational data and supported by fully transparent reasoning processes.

The platform’s new AI functionality enables users to identify vessel performance issues, assess hull and propulsion efficiency, analyse machinery condition, evaluate emissions exposure, and receive prioritised operational recommendations at the press of a button. Importantly, users have full visibility into data quality, model reasoning, and confidence scoring directly through the platform interface.

The new AI-powered capabilities will be demonstrated at the upcoming Posidonia 2026 exhibition, where visitors will be able to experience first-hand how maritime-native AI can support faster, more transparent operational decision-making.

At Metis, the security of our maritime digital infrastructure and the integrity of our customers’ data are our highest priorities.

As part of our commitment to continuous security monitoring, we recently resolved potential vulnerabilities identified by Cydome Research. The vulnerabilities were found in a deprecated service within a limited set of our METIS WIC and METIS DFS devices operating on older software versions. Devices operating on current versions were not affected.

Upon being notified of these findings, our engineering team immediately initiated a thorough review. We confirmed that the identified issues and were linked to a legacy service that was already slated for deprecation. A dedicated update was rapidly developed to completely remove the vulnerable deprecated service. As of January 22, 2026, this patch has been successfully deployed across the entire active installed base, ensuring that all operating devices are fully protected. The update required no user interaction and was carried out through our standard remote update process. Furthermore, there is no evidence of exploitation in the maritime environment.

It must be noted that exploiting those vulnerabilities would require the attacker to have already gained access to the vessel’s internal IT network through an alternative path. Moreover, the vulnerabilities do not inherently provide automatic compromise of broader ship systems. Standard practices such as network segmentation and security controls further reduce potential exposure.

“We want to thank the Cydome team for their professional approach and for identifying these vulnerabilities through a responsible disclosure process” said Andreas Symeonidis VP of Operations at Metis. “The issues were limited to a narrow set of devices running earlier software versions. While the affected service was already deprecated as part of our ongoing product evolution, Cydome’s collaboration enabled us to accelerate validation and complete the global rollout of updates. Their findings helped us ensure our customers’ devices and data remain secure.”
